Second Set Of Horses

I wonder
these things

sanity

reality

normality

as I sit
upon the sidewalk
of the backyard

sunshine

fresh air

the neighbors
dogs
sniffing the grass
around me

sniffing me

they look
into my face

blink
the brightness
away

unconcerned

accepting

they lead
uncomplicated
lives

mine
far more complex
by comparison

but far
more simple
than the majority
of my fellow
humans

society
compels me
to do
something

even though
I seem to have
all of the necessary
elements
in this moment

a car
drives by

the occupants
observing
an old man
just sitting
in the sun

they
wave

I wave
back

I am sure
that they
wonder

but of
far less
existential
matters

they have
things
to do
