I am standing
with a group
of young men

all are dressed
in wild suits

plaids

stripes

other odd
patterns

bright

almost fluorescent
colors

no one
saying
anything

they seem
to be posing

doing odd
things
with their
arms

hands

shifting about
on their feet
but not really
moving anywhere

are we
on stage?

camera?

who
is our
audience?

they gaze
about
but not
at each other

not
at me

I am too
self-conscious
to look
down
at what
I am wearing

I don’t
know what
to do
with my hands

so I put
them
in my front
pockets

knowing
somehow
that I am ruining
the lines
of my pants
