I am walking
in a large
tall
building

the structure
is cylindrical
hollow
in the middle

I can see
down
many floors
to the lobby

I can see
up
to a huge
skylight
maybe 20

30 floors
above

each floor
has a circular
landing
connecting
elevators
to the office
doors
on that level

I am following
a tall man
in western attire
around one
of them

somehow
I know
that he’s
John Wayne

and for some
reason
I must know
where
he is going

I look
at the faces
of others
to see
if any recognition
of a celebrity
is registered

but
they notice
him
no more
than they
notice me

which
is not
at all

the two
of us
locked
in a slow
pursuit

I am sure
that he
doesn’t know
I’m behind
him

I am sure
that if
he knows
he certainly
doesn’t care

I’d certainly
feel embarrassed
is he discovered
me

confronted
me

but somehow
I feel
that he’s about
to do something
important

that I
will be
his witness

if I just
continue
