I am lashing
a load
of furniture
together
upon
a trailer

I say
out loud
to no one
in particular
that I’m no longer
giving furniture
away

thinking
that these people
paid
for the couch
but I threw in
the coffee
table

tables

lamps
for nothing

“what
makes you think
that you have
any furniture
left?”

a woman
comments
from behind
me

laughing

I look
at everything
already loaded

realizing
that she is
probably
right

there
can’t be
too much
remaining
in my garage
apartment

now
I wonder
what could
have convinced me
to move in
with another
woman

when all
that I’ve ever
wanted

was to be
left
alone

I turn
around
to see
