I am sitting
with a woman
at a table
in a restaurant

we are next
to a large window
on a sunny
day

she
is eating
a sandwich

I am trying
to eat
some noodle dish
using a spoon

she is talking
to me
but I am distracted
by the sliding
noodles

“we should get
as much water
as we can
to take
with us”

she says

I nod
but am still
looking down
at my plate

a waiter
walks up

“can I get
you two
anything else?”

I want
to say
“a fork”
but know
that the woman
is expecting me
to ask about
water

I tell him
that we need
as many cases
as possible
loaded
into our car

“of course
sir

and where
will you be taking
all
of that water?”

I picture
the name
of the town
in my head

but am unsure
how to pronounce
it

as the waiter
and the woman
watch me

waiting
for a response
