Dreams 2022

Dream 62

I am looking
out
of a picture
window

I see
something furry
in the front
yard

a dead
animal
of some sort
I guess

I go outside
to investigate

a stuffed
animal
lies there
in the sunshine

as I grab
the fake bear
I realize
that I am
naked

I hear
a car approaching

instead
of running back
to the house

I dash
toward the sound
to hide behind
a small bush
by the street

as the vehicle
passes
I have to shift
around
in order
to remain
hidden

just as it
drives by
my neighbors
come out
of their door

they are
talking
to each other
and don’t
notice me

I run
to the lawn
on the other side
which turns out
to be
a sloping
vacant lot

I lie
face down
in the long
grass

trying
as best as
possible
to cover my
ass
with the fluffy
toy

now a couple
are nearing
on the sidewalk

I know
that they
can see me
but look only
at each
other

I realize
that so far
no one
has paid
any attention
to me
at all

and wonder
if I am
dreaming
