Dreams 2022

Dream 61

I awake
on my couch
in the dark
to the sound
of footsteps

at first
I think
that I must’ve
dreamt them

but wide
awake
I hear
a further
rustling

a nearing

then
a bright
light shines
upon my
chest

a bunch
of long stemmed
very red roses
are dropped
across my
midsection

I look up
to see
a face

but other
than the bright
glare

I see
nothing

I am sitting
on the
couch

then
feel something
brush upon
my neck

I turn
to see
a black kitten
lying there

looking
at me

an additional
tickling
has me look
to the other
side

another kitten
languishes
as well

four green
eyes
study me

I reach
to pet them
but they shy
away

lazing
back
when my hand
is withdrawn

wanting
to be near

but not
to be touched

I finally
settle back
to their
purring
