Dreams 2022

Dream 58
(2/22/2022)

I am walking
into a house
only illuminated
by the late afternoon
sun

a small
canine

a Chihuahua mix
of some kind
rushes
around me

the furniture
is gone
exposing
a dusty
wood floor

a few
half-packed
boxes
remain

“grab anything
else
that might
be useful”

I remember
her saying

I didn’t
want to move

but she needed
a more trendy

a more expensive
neighborhood

I don’t
know

even
in this
almost evacuated
state

this place
feels
more comfortable

more stable

more like
a home
than any other

we walk
through
the rooms

the dog
finally
lies down
with a whimper

I know that
his bed

his bowls

used to be
in this
corner

I bend
down

sit beside
him

he climbs
into my
lap

and there
we remain
as the sun
slowly
sets
