I am standing
at a large table
in the plant

many coworkers
are passing by

I am trying
to sort through
the many items
in front
of me

I see
schematics

circuit boards

technical books

and a large
collection
of test equipment

off
in a far corner
I see
the partial surface
of a lime green
envelope

it doesn’t
belong
there

I walk
around

lift
the paperwork
hiding half
of the intruder

and remove
the colorful
obscenity

holding
it close
to my smock
in hope
that no one
notices

I glance
down
to read

I have
no idea
whom
that might
be

but the writing
looks
feminine

lightly
penned

heavily
flourished

then I
notice
something
lumpy

something
round

included
inside
with the supposed
greeting card

I am confused
but not really
that curious

mainly
embarrassed

someone
has upset
my balance

I decide
that it is
much easier
simply to replace
the envelope

this time
totally
obscuring
its presence

in order
to deny
all knowledge
of its
existence

and to get
back
to work
