I am outside
on a rainy
day

a large
building
is in front
of me

there are
many
windows

there are
many people
in the windows

all watching
me
in horror

I can’t hear
their screams
but do see
their frantic
faces

their
spastic
signals

they
want me
to come
in

NOW!

HURRY!

they
pantomime

I look
above
the structure’s
roof

see huge
thunderheads

swirling

curling

with apparent
tornadic
activity

lightning
punctuates
the churning
sky

but it is
calm
where I
am

a warm
shower
caresses me
gently

I scan
down
to the framed
crowd
again

I don’t
want
to be
in their portraits

I’ll take
my chances
alone
in the elements
