in a waiting
room

she’s
reading
a magazine

I’m just
looking
around

at the
room

at the
people

at her

now
we are in
a large hospital
area

Mom is
standing
in a gown

a nurse
is having her
sign
some forms

I am
in a chair
to the
side

I feel
as if
I should go
hug her

tell her
that I
love her

tell her
goodbye

but she
seems calm

otherwise
occupied
with the what
the nurse
explaining
to her

I don’t
want to get
in the way

to make
a big deal
about it
