had stared
at her
often
in amazement

this woman
he had married
in his previous
life

perhaps
napping upon
the couch

gently
breathing
unaware

the ring
upon her finger
which he had
given to her

a representation
of their union

but six years
later
he still felt
quite separate

he didn’t
understand
her motivations

her joys

her discontents

as much
as he tried
to satisfy
her wants

a temporarily
happy partner

divorce
was unavoidable
as they drifted

attraction

so perfect
