Can You Help Me?
(7/18/2021)

Brother Bollocks
sat
with a fellow
latter-middle-aged
Caucasian friend

on a July 4th
weekend

in the Greenwood
District
of Tulsa

in the year
marking
the 100th anniversary
of one of the worst
race atrocities
in our country

his friend
a visitor

wanting
to see
what all
of the recent
publicity
was about

there’s
not much
to see

a handful
of small
businesses

t-shirt
and memorabilia
stands

the rebuilt
church

all abutting
the new
double A
baseball park

much more
significant
in appearance

as Brother Bollocks
was about
to suggest
walking on

a “person of color”
(as he referred
to himself)
asked where
the Greenwood
museum
could be found

they pointed
toward the site
still
under construction

talked to him
for a few minutes
about his history

Mississippi State
graduate

now selling
real estate
in Arizona

preparing
to move
to California

wanting
as much as they
to see the spot
of such
infamy

they wished
each other
well

as they
walked away
Brother Bollocks
realized

that they had
mistakenly pointed
toward the church
instead of
the construction lot

just
two old
white guys

deceiving
the black man
once
again
