couldn’t understand
why so many
side interests
never amounted
to anything

he was curious
about so many
sundry subjects

but as
he explored
each one

he sensed
no innate
knowledge

no easy
facility
for them

so he would
become
frustrated

angry
that he
didn’t
to have
any true
vocation

any natural
talent

why
was he here?

what
was God’s plan
for him?

in the end
he would sour
upon each
unsatisfying
diversion

return
to the matters
at hand

work

food

rest

his petty
hobbies

Brother Bollocks
seemed destined
for no great
achievement

only
an ordinary
life

a life
that he had
to remind himself
each day

was quite
the miracle
of existence
