we came
of age
with the show

and some
of the most
memorable
skits

were not
their funniest

but were
almost real enough
to make everyone
uncomfortable

to make
us laugh
in order
to hide
our fears

then
when we
would see
something similar
in non-TV life

“look"

we would
say

"a Saturday Night Live
routine
gone wrong”

now

decades
later

everywhere
that I look
seems like
a too finely
edged
comedic sketch

expecting the actors
to soon
break character

walk away
smirking
at their
performances

but they
do not

this is
real

this is
really bad
