SOLITUDE TAX
(2/19/18)

there is
a heavy price
to pay
for living
alone

no network
of family

friends

acquaintances

to help
in times
of disability

inconvenience

disaster

we
who require
our self imposed
exiles
are then
forced to deal
with the convoluted
system
that we seek
so diligently
to avoid

without
any close
social support
we must approach
anonymous
entities

strangers

our costs
are increased
exponentially
within no
knowing discounts

when our
situations
are resolved
we are left
with reduced
monetary reserves

depleted
psyches
from dealing
with the general
public

we close
our doors

turn off
the lights

draw the
shades

recharge
our resolution

our bank
accounts

and hope
that everything
in our lives
will continue
to function

for at least
one more day
of blessed
isolation
