Dogs 2018

FINAL RUN
(2/21/18)

we see
her tears

hear
her muffled
sobs

a storied
career
is at
an end

we feel
for her

we really
do

she's worked
very hard
to attain
her privileged
position

she's fought
through
injuries

adversities
that the rest
of us
could never
understand

she thanks
her family

her teammates

but somehow
we think
that she's missed
the few millions

the few billions
of us
that plod through
our daily existence
to provide
the infrastructure

the tax
base

that allows
her
to exploit
her skills
to the utmost

she seems
genuinely
moved

but we
wonder
about the other
pampered
prima donnas

the athletes

the actors

musicians

performers

politicians

that pursue
their dreams

pursue
their egos

at the expense
of the vast
majority
that labor
away

every
day

at their
hum drum
pedestrian
jobs

not just
the ticket paying
fans
of these public
figures

but all
the rest

who keep
the lights on

who keep
the food
available

the rooms
open

the roads
clear

the flights
on time

however
many celebrities
seem so
self consumed
with their pursuits

that they consider
such necessities
as natural resources

not the sweat

the toil

of other humans
less talented

less fortunate

than themselves

Einstein
understood
these things

then
he was smarter
than most

but his
downhill
split times
were never
consistent
