Dogs 2017

MINDFUL HAUNTING
(8/24/17)

the wife
of the man
who built
this house
died here

from what
I know
she simply
expired
due to age

mostly
at peace
she doesn't seem
to want to leave
the only home
that was ever
hers

I sense
signs
of her presence
from time
to time

slightly
shifting shadows

cautious
creaks
of small
footsteps

small objects
barely turned
in place

light
finger traces
in the dust
when I'm behind
on the housework

she's
a very polite
ghost

she fills
a house
that otherwise echoes
with my solitude

I'd like
to think
that she invites
my mother
over for tea
on occasion

the two
close together
whispering

shaking
their heads
at my daily
antics
