Dogs 2016

I REMEMBER
(1/11/17)

radishes

rhubarb

a polar
bear

burgers
at family bars

milkshakes
at the drugstore

getting groceries
at the IGA

a nine hole
golf course

shiny dimes
from the dentist

the Coop's
grain elevator

the Hooper Inn

climbing
the hill
to Grandma's

visiting
my brother's grave
at the cemetery

50
years later
I still dream
of a hometown
that we left
when I was
7

never
of other family
residences

perhaps
because it was
the first

memories
etched
when the mind
was new

when the soul
was more linked
to an origin

an earth
more
essential

a home
that can never
be left
