HOME INVASION
(5/24/17)

usually
they come
twice
a year

too much
rain

not enough
rain

seems
to trigger
their flood

ants

little
ants

everywhere

crawling
the walls

the floors

the cabinets

there seems
a continual shift
in my normally static
domestic background

I buy

I distribute
the little baits

but they
take
way too long
to have
an effect

so I spray
the bothersome insects
with the first
thing handy

bleach cleaner

it kills
them
almost instantly

with the added
anomaly
of sticking them
to whatever surface
on which
they expire

they seem
a wallpaper
of black specks
near any portal
to the out
of doors

eventually
they dry

fall away

but in
the interim
I have hundreds
of trophies
about the house

a reckoning

an unheeded
warning

a sign
of desperation

I await
the turning
tide
