Dogs 2017

COMPANY PORTRAIT DAY
(7/8/17)

I stay
away
from cameras

from people
who own
them

but
when every
phone
is a camera

it's tough
these days
to maintain
a minimal
photo footprint

then
there are always
those occasions
when pictures
are mandatory

or at least
socially
mandated

I suffer
with
a smile

later
the results
seem none too
smile worthy

how
did I get
so old
so quickly?

a mirror
doesn't show
such gray

such lined
features

I remember
being a young
man
only a few years
ago

I have
suddenly passed
some middle age
mark

the next
stop seems
to be ancient

decrepit

surprised
each day
with life

not such
a change
I guess

we open
our eyes
to a continuing
miracle
each morning

never knowing
for certain
that we'll see
the sunset

no matter
our age

I just find
myself now
a bit slower
realizing
these things

a bit more
reticent
to accept
my dying
image
