SOCIAL ENCUMBRANCE
(6/30/16)

I know
what
to do

I know
what
to say

I have
a vague notion
of how
to look

and I can
maintain
a pretense
of civility
for short
durations
in a crowd

but much
like a cheetah
sprinting
the savannah

I tire
quickly

I really
don't understand
the need
for these
get togethers

I really
don't care

lapses
in decorum
become
obvious

occurrences
of offense

incredulity

embarrassment
soon follow

a hasty
exit
the necessary
solution

you can't
take me
anywhere

I am much
more convivial
in a vacuum
of two
