HONEST INTENT
(1/31/16)

the truth
confuses them

actuality
is not actually
what they want
to hear

they want
to hear only
what they want
to hear

or at worse
they want to hear
what they expect
to hear

naked veracity
causes them
discomfort

they want
the sharp edges
obscured

softened
with sophistry

at the end
of the statement
they would rather
smile

than shuffle
about

heads down
in awkward
distress

stuttering

stammering

not understanding
why you couldn't
make this easier
for them

they don't
seem to realize
that the words
only describe
the truth

approximate
the truth

at best

action
is the only
indicator
of accuracy

the thought
that such ugly
statements
happened

may be
happening

or might
happen

terrifies
them

the facts
are the facts
no matter how
we utter
the reality

some
should simply
step out
of the way

disappear
into the periphery
of pretend

we have
truth
to tell
