Dogs 2015

THE SWARM
(5/31/15)

mosquitoes
have thrived
during these weeks
of endless
rain

they cover
the doors
and windows

daring us
to set foot
outside

hoping
to feast
upon our blood

we have
altered
our movements
accordingly

dashing
in and out

habitually
shooing them away
from exposed skin
whether they
are attacking
or not

we appear
as alcoholics
in the throes
of delirium tremens

back inside
we swear
that they are
still there

hearing
the incessant
buzzing
even whilst
in insect free
environs

we dream
of the dryer days
of June

July

August

to deliver
us
from this seasonal
insanity

when the sun
burns away
the moisture
along
with most
of the creepy
crawlies

when we
can again
wax nostalgic
for the cooler
rainy days
of May
