Dogs 2015

LOSS OF SINGULARITY
(5/7/15)

the time
arrives
when we
no longer look
at individuals

when we
no longer obsess
on self

we begin
to see insects
instead
of the mosquito
that just
bit us

to see
the collection
of Canis
and not just
the dog barking
next door

to see
the entirety
of humanity
outlasting
the caricatures
which we see
puttering
in the yards
of our neighborhoods

the caricatures
which we
see
in our mirrors

while
neither infinite

nor immortal

these ideas

these ideals

span a much
greater interval
than a single
insignificant lifetime

a much
greater concept
than our dwindling
days
will allow

a much
greater knowing
than just
one human
destined
to die

all too
soon

we gain
comfort
with age
that this worldly
wonderment
preceded us
for millennia

will continue
indefinitely
without us

but we
smile
a bit
when we finally
close our eyes

we were
one
of a kind
