Dogs 2014

LAUNDRY THEATRE
(3/16/14)

I manage
to knock over
the clothes
basket
while searching
for some different
shoes
in my closet

I right
the container
and replace
the main
bundle
but a few stragglers
are left

I grab
some blue jeans
and find myself
in the backyard
last Saturday
digging up
some spreading
monkey grass
then replanting it
in more pleasing
positions

I can smell
the dirt

hear
the birds

seconds later
back
on the hardwood
in the hall
I let the pants
fall
from my "gifted"
hands

I pick up
my wife's
scrub top
and am standing
in the corner
of an exam
room
as she takes
a patient's
history

neither
seem to know
that I'm
there

I fade
to the house
again

if I hasten
the transfer
to a second
or less
I seem
to be spared
the clothing's
spell

but some things
always
prove difficult

a sock
sends me
to a wet street
where I stepped
in a muddy puddle
days before

a shirt
to my office
where I dribbled
some coffee
while sitting
at my desk

a sweatshirt
to my wife's
afternoon run

only dirty
clothes
seem to have
this effect
upon me

almost done
I attempt
to hook
the remaining
underwear
with a toe

there are
some things
that I just
don't want
to know

or remember
