Dogs 2014

AFTER THE DELUGE
(5/30/14)

the birds
are singing
loudly
on this
still cloudy
morning

much
too loudly
for a Monday holiday
sleep-in

out
of the window
I see squirrels
scampering
everywhere

soft dirt
makes
for easy digging
I assume

there
are many
clumps
of vegetation
on the sidewalks

in the street

apparently
blown from trees
and bushes
during
the storm
and washed
to common
points
of restricted flow

on
both porches
I hang
the welcome mats
from railings
to drip dry

I look
around

the world
is currently
a dank
dreary
depressing place

I back
the car
out of the garage
wishing
that I had left it
in the driveway
to have its filth
rinsed away
with
the nighttime
rain

it
would've gotten
dirty again
too soon
anyway

out
splashing through
the many puddles
and accumulating
spray
from other
vehicles

at the
office
all seems
the same
inside

the work
unaffected
by the weather

a bedrock
of labor

with everyone else
off
for the day
I can possibly
get something
profitable
done

at noon
I go back
home

it's still
too wet
to get out
in the yard
and clean up
the fallout

but the
mats
have dried
sufficiently

I make sure
to position
"WELCOME"
to be rightside up
only
upon exit

I want
any uninvited
guests

any guests

to feel
welcomed
to leave
at any time

I close
the door

I wait

for the
next
purpose
