TRIAL DESPERATION
(8/17/13)

he can
understand

he really
can

she's lived
her whole life
in the same
area

anchored
by an early
marriage
and child

a divorce

another marriage

another divorce

another marriage

no preparation
ever made
for a life apart

on her own

now
the mid 40s approach
and so many opportunities
to survive solo
seem long
since past

why not
get away
from the house

the husband

the son

party
with childhood
friends

like
she was never
able to party
when a young
adult

talk about
moving away

different places

different people

far removed
from this Hell
of a monotony
her life
has become

her boring
husband

her needy
son

her Satan

her Antichrist

placing her
hope
on the False Prophet
of geographic
escape

the
sure-to-be
exciting population
there

a new life
away
from the misery
of now

he tells
her
that misery
is a very mobile
commodity

she glares

he
is the
enemy

he had
decided himself
into different
directions

he partied
traveled
experimented
in his 20s

his 30s

he didn't
marry
until his late
40s

he married
her

he tells her
that
every place

every face

begins
to look
the same
after only
a few weeks

if lucky
a few
months

they all
become reflections
of the emptiness
inside

she shakes
her head

he doesn't
understand

she
puts on
her makeup

reveling clothing

a resigned
smile

and kisses
him

goodbye
