Dogs 2013

LOW
(7/13/13)

I'm on
my way
to work
and see
that the tank
is well below
an eighth

almost
empty

I stop
at the nearest
convenience
store

gas prices
up again

somebody
in London
Frankfurt
New York
or Tokyo
didn't like
the smell
of the latest farts
emanating
from the
Middle East

so we pay
a quarter dollar
more
per gallon
today
than at
the first
of the week

I swipe
the card
select the grade
insert the nozzle
begin pumping
and set
for auto

I back
away
to check
the aging
Cavalier

no new
dings
or dents
fortunately

tires
do need
some air
and have lost
a lot of tread

probably
new ones
in the
Fall

great

the windows
are a splattered
mess
so I reach
for the sponge/squeegee
and begin
removing
what filth
I can

some
of the cleaning
fluid dribbles
down
the right rear
quarter panel

so I clean
that too

my ride
is really
dirty

apparently
even more so
with clean windows
and quarter panel

I do
the trunk
lid
and the other
rear quarter
and bumper

the ass end
of the Chevy
looks great

the front
not so much

the pump
clicks off
but I have
other matters
on my mind

roof
hood
front grill
and bumper

from the front
and back
it looks
pretty damned
spiffy

I dip
the device
back
into the decreasing
dispenser level
and get doors
fenders
and extraneous
trim

my car
is full

my car
is clean

albeit
with a confusing
crisscross pattern
of squeegee
streaks

still
a major
improvement

the morning
seems
a bit brighter

while
replacing
the nozzle
I notice
the front passenger
in the vehicle
at the pump
behind me

the old
woman
appears
to be watching

I smile
and shrug

she just
deadpans
and shakes
her head

low rent
waste case
she probably
thinks

I smile
wider
and wave

now
she frowns

oh well

I can't
charm them
all

any
of them

I get
back in

crank
up
the tunes

and speed
away

a bit
less filthy
and depleted

into
the rising
sun
