Dogs 2013

DULL ACHE
(6/4/13)

for most
of us

on most
days

there are
no great
joys

no great
tragedies

we treasure
hunt
our lives
from one
proffered task
to the next

we have
little idea
who's leaving
these clues
of labor
and fret

we do realize
that the majority
of these requirements
are pointless

ridiculous

but we
are compelled
by society
to complete them
if we want
to remain
among
the favored

these
dictates
of civilization
cause us
to lose
sleep

lose hair

lose belief

to doubt
what we perceive
as reality

life
and death
seem secondary
to rules
and regulations

being hungry
horny
or sleepy
are postponed
for payments
paperwork
and a plethora
of pedantic laws
directions
and instructions
which must
be followed
to a crucifixed
T

parchment
constellations
fill the skies
and our futures
are predicted
by their ascension
and decline

our fates
determined
by wizards
unseen

their caprices
of right
and wrong
controlling us
far beyond
our capacity
for daily
deceit

we simply
want
to live

to exist
without the bitch
of a bureaucratic
itch

however
the irritation
is consisitent
and deep

at times
requiring
more extreme
measures
to relieve

no wonder
there are those
who scratch
with the soothing
panaceas
of drugs
alcohol
and suicide

some externalize
resorting
to bullets
bombs
or bayonets

they simply
see
no other
recourse
for relief

they are
imprisoned
by the constructs
of humanity
but their
physical discomfort
convinces them
that their
torment
is real

as my hands
about your throat
must convince
you now
