Dogs 2012

CLOWN
(6/28/12)

those
who know me
always smile
upon
approach

I am
only aware
that I have
donned
my disquise
of sociability
after I see
the response
on their
faces

the mime
is now
automatic

I learned
the act
young
knowing
that to look
pensive
forlorn
or agitated
only led
to unwanted
questions

drawn out
conversations

I found
that keeping
the intercourse
to such inanities
as "Beuatiful day!"
"Looking good!"
"Hey there!"
and the
like
kept me
from having
to expound
any further
upon
the useless
undertaking
of speech

I walk
quickly
on by
like a passing
train
letting
the words
shift
in frequency
as I leave
them
behind

my
floppy shoes
flapping
the sidewalk
in staccato
rhythms
of solitude
