Dogs 2012

ATLAS OF THE ABSURD
(8/17/12)

the road
gives me
perspective

free from
the daily details
of my usual
domestic
dubiousness
I am able
to scan
the simple
sky
of existence

blueness
stripped bare
from the confusing
clouds
of repetitive
responsibility
allowing some
fundamental meaning
to shine down
and bathe me
in soothing
light

my requirements
have been
minimized
to the basics

food
water
gas
and toilet
breaks

I am

and
I am
mobile

nothing
more

far back
in my consciousness
a destination
nags

but hundreds
of miles away
those social
conventions
can wait

I stop
at a restroom
in a community
park
quite glad
that the town
had the foresight
to provide
passers through
with an alternative
to the populated
gas stations
and convenience
stores

there's nothing
like a peaceful
solitary
sorely needed
piss
to make me
grateful
for the ease
that life
can offer

I zip up
and walk back
outside
to watch
the citizenry
scurry about
on their appointed
rounds

they are
fools
but I have
no predilection
to bring them
with me

they have
their own
trips
to take
