Dogs 2010

TOURNIQUEST TOO FEW
(8/30/10)

we bleed
a little
we bleed
a lot
each
and every
day

blowing
a nose
flossing
between teeth
popping
a pimple
wiping
an ass
shaving
various parts
of our hairy
bodies

simple acts
simply releasing
the most precious
of bodily fluids
on a regular
basis

we become
inured

sports
crimes
mistakes
surgeries
menstruation

redundant
red
from sunrise
to bed
not enough
shock
to revive
our dread

wars
fights
battles
skirmishes
army to army
hand to hand
their blood
or ours

what
does it matter
when all our dead
from a horrific
Vietnam
match
our acceptable losses
from auto accidents
in one year

we
see blood
everywhere
Lady McBeths all
we tire of washing
and begin
to wear
crimson
as our daily
attire

matching
our surroundings
we blend
in bleeding
sameness

red
stains white
to the point
of purity's
demise
