PREVAILING SOUTHERLIES
(3/27/10)

a blustery
morning wind
moves newly budded
limbs
with feigned
ferocity

branches
no longer bare
braced by the breeze
like fluttering fingers
showing off
shiny jewelry
in the sunlight

Spring
has arrived
all life
will thrive
not a thought
ever given
to all that
has died
to make
this possible

plants
people
animals alike
had to pass
before us
in order
to provide
this fertile ground
that springs
another season

the stars
themselves
had to shed
so many layers
of living elements
so that chemicals
could coalesce
into this Earth
eager
to be green

we cycle
again
we cycle
still
predicated
on the corpses
of the gardens
we fill
