Dogs 2010

DISHARMONIOUS HOPSCOTCH
(10/11/10)

we live
in a random access
world

no one
wants to sit
still
for any continuity
in music
movies
books
art
or conversation

they want
rapid fire
snippets
of lyrics
scenes
lines
images
and information
in order to move
quickly
to the next
happening

I try
to explain
to my
wireless
always connected
family
how the mix
and match
madness
of their music
selections
at home
really vivisects
some of my
classic favorites

the
true intent
of Tommy
The Wall
and Aenima
is butchered
in shuffle play
with my wife's
80's new wave
and the death metal
mayhem
of my
stepson

I have
never
heard them
listen to an "album"
all the way
through
as once
was intended

they would
scurry
from their
skins
at such
a thought

I am
relegated
to stocking
my car
with any CDs
requiring continuous
consideration
and taking
my show
on the
road

I wonder
if they'll notice
the trips
getting longer
and longer
as time
goes by

as long
as I respond
to every pushbutton
or touchscreen
demand
they'll probably
never know
that I'm
gone
