PLANET SELF
(12/20/07)

I can't
help it

I am
happiest
alone

after a day
of dealing
with the bipeds
nothing else
brings a smile
to my face
more than
solitude
loud
desert rock
and a certain amount
of physical exertion

sweating
forgetting
getting stronger
getting wronger
replete in conceit
and as close
to immortality
as I'll ever
be

selfish
on the surface
I'd be the first
to admit
but fueled by ego
and an allotment
of anger
I get as close
to the now
as my nerve endings
will allow

I remember

riding
on the first
subway car
front window down
warm dank tunnel air
wrapping around me
as the rhythm
of the tracks
rocked
my body away
from the
human intrusion
at the speed
of dark

nirvana
in nightshade
feeling the poison
reeling in reason
knowing death
but not caring
as long as

I

am

one
