HE HAS RISEN
(4/8/07)

the need
to put
an earthly mask
on the face
of the divine
is understandable
if not also
a bit pitiable

worshipping
some featureless
angry father
in the sky
drains
all hope
after a while
and a less
than perfect
example
is required

having God
far above
and the Romans
everywhere
below
must have made
some half-mad rabbi
quiet attractive
by comparison

the fact
that they could
also kill him
gave them
a bit of control
over their deity
and the prevailing
circumstance
of the day

much easier
to revere
someone
who has barely escaped
the same weaknesses
and frailties
of us all
than
to cower
beneath
the infinite holiness
of a distant
all-knowing
semi-benevolent
being

easier
to create
a complicated
Trinity
to explain that
they are all
One
in the same
and begin killing
in their
names

how perfectly
human

He has risen
indeed
