Dogs 2007

ALIEN
(1/7/07)

the sidewalks
are mirrors
mocking
my pedestrian
conceit

passing cars
distort my presence
with relative
ridiculousness
stretching my form
and slowing
my progress

clear eyes
clear skin
heads clear
of societal doubt
dismiss my existence
a phantom freak
from another
land

the river
a calendar
stretching
to infinity
whispers
my transient nature
over a hunched
shoulder

the sun
feigns a warm
impressionistic comfort
on a winter's day
laughing
at my inability
to adequately receive
its proffered
radiation

I sit on a bench
and close my eyes
but the world
continues to move
dragging me through
a cosmological fabric
that will not allow
even a moment
of immobile
peace

in darkness
I hear the hum
of the universe
telling me
that I
do
not
belong
