TUMBLEWEEDS
(12/4/06)

they
continually
blow across
our paths
all these
desiccated
skeletons
of today

our
reactions
to them
should not be based
upon their visual merit
for at times
they appear
to block out
the sun

but upon
closer inspection
they are hollow puppets
not worthy of fear
or trepidation
and can
be crunched
under foot
like spent shells
of long dead
insects

although
they cloud
our horizons
at times
their existence
is truly
transitory

as is
our own
as we blow
across
the earthly
paths
of others
