JUST STOP TALKING
(8/29/05)

so many words
so little real meaning
avalanches of verbal banalities
rushing over and around us
crushing our sensibilities
as they slow to a stop
and our minds finally
begin to comprehend
the vastness of dross
but that realization
only occurs
of course
after it is
far
too
late

there seems
to be no safe haven
from the spoken word
the printed word
the electronic word
the flashing word
the embedded
caste in iron
intractable
waste
of the word

I roll
the words
at you now
but to retain them
would defeat any attempt
at needed self preservation
they have to go somewhere
since to keep them bouncing
about my weary brain would
definitely be a detriment
to my presently
tenuous
sanity

to speak them
would risk discovery
and I have been
so diligent
to mimic the mundane
and maintain the good
front of normality
that allows me
to still walk
and talk
with the
majority

I tire
however
of the pretense
and look to the day
when the words flow freely
and I stroll their streets
with the impunity
and the freedom
of the deranged
and the
damned
